What You Can Do & How to Credit
Got a question? You’re in the right place. Here’s everything you need to know about using SMART images.
Licensing & Attribution
Can I use SMART images in my book, thesis, or research article?
Absolutely! All SMART images are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0). This means you can use them in printed or digital publications, including commercial ones, as long as you give proper credit.
How do I give credit for SMART images?
Just include this line wherever you use the images (e.g., figure legend, acknowledgments):
“Image provided by Servier Medical Art (https://smart.servier.com/), licensed under CC BY 4.0 (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/).”
If you’ve modified the image (changed colors, added text, etc.), use this version:
“Image adapted from Servier Medical Art (https://smart.servier.com/), licensed under CC BY 4.0 (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/).”
Do I need written permission to use SMART images?
Nope. The CC BY 4.0 license already grants you permission. Just follow the attribution guidelines.
Can I use SMART images in a paid course or subscription platform?
Yes, that’s fine—as long as you provide the correct attribution.
Editing & Modifying Images
Can I change the colors, add labels, or crop SMART images?
Yes, feel free to adapt the images. Just remember to mention that they’ve been modified in the attribution (see above).
Can I use SMART images to create a logo?
Not recommended. SMART images are for educational and illustrative use, not for branding or logo creation.
Educational & Online Use
Can I use SMART images in YouTube videos?
Yes, including monetized videos. Just make sure to add the attribution in the video description, not in the video itself.
Can I include SMART images in a mobile app or e-learning course?
Yes, go ahead. Just add the attribution somewhere visible, like a credits section or in-app acknowledgments.
I’m developing an educational game/app. Can I use SMART images?
Yes, as long as it’s not marketed as a standalone image library or collection. Attribution is required.
Formats & Access
Are SMART images available in SVG format?
Not right now. You can download them as PPTX or PNG files.
How often do you update the image bank?
We add new content once a year, usually based on user suggestions and emerging medical topics.
